The centre
has a staff of one Manager/ Seaweed Research Co-ordinator (funded by the Irish Marine Institute) and a core of 2 researchers on contract bases to fulfil objectives set out by the manager. With acquired funding from the HEA's PRTLI Cycle III and recently aquired funding from the Aquareg EU program the Centre has expanded with one Post-Doctoral fellow, one PhD-student and one research assistant. During the last year, several students have teamed-up with the Irish Seaweed Centre, amongst them 4
th year students and exchange students from abroad.

Seaweed Research Co-ordinator for the Marine Institute. Expertise in taxonomy and molecular phylogeney and diving surveys/fieldwork.
Mr Jim Morrissey Research Assistent. Speciality: seaweed aquaculture of Palmaria palmata, Alaria esculenta and Chondrus crispus. Jim is the practical hands of the ISC and is currently coordinating the Chondrus project
Ms Anna Soler Vila Anna is a PhD student working on marine algae as a novel, sustainable organic supplement in fish feed for salmonid aquaculture. Anna is working on the seaweed side of this project. Nutritional values and tank cultivation of candidate seaweeds are her main foci.
Dr Robert Wilkes Post Doctoral researcher responsible for the Enzyme screening project and Iodine in Kelp project. He has expertise in taxonomy and molecular phylogeny, microscopy, SCUBA, surveys/fieldwork. Main interest are the commercial utilisation of marine algae and green tides in Ireland.
Mr Benoit Quéguineur Ben is a M.Sc. student working on several projects amongst them aquaculture of edible seaweeds, population dynamics of Chondrus crispus and nutritional value of macroalgae. His main interest is polyphenols and their anti-oxidant working in several edible seaweed species.
